You could still have a leak in the hubs even if they're still engaging. I'd highly suspect them as the culprit.

Vacuum leak. My truck has done this twice. It's probably a vac line under the dash.

On the passenger side of the motor, there is a white vac line, located on top, you can't miss it, that probably came off. I have an 05 and I was having the same problem. It seemed to fix it so far. Another thing that seemed to help if that doesn't work, is turn the fan down, for a few seconds, and turn the temp to like 82-83 degrees. It usually comes back to the front and then turn it back cold and the fan back up. Hope this helps.

This should help me I have the same problem. Defrost blows and usually I can turn the climate control off a few times and eventually it will blow out the vents. Also my 4wd is a little twitchty sometimes and won't lock, it does most the time but every now and then it won't engage, but the A/C never blows out the vents until a few tries.

a vacuum leak most likely.

I had the same problem (and it would sometimes switch to blow out dash) and found a disconnected hose.

See if you can you hear the buzz of the vacuum pump running for a long time...that'd be an indication.

Had the same problem yesterday. Grey vacuum line under hood on right side came loose. Stuck it back on to plug it and it was fixed.
