Climate control question

I have an '04 (built in July of '03) F250 6.0 Crew Cab 4x4. I have the 3 knobs on the dash for the climate control. Bought the truck new and have always pointed the far right knob to the vent option which blows outside air thru the the dash. This is the first selection to the left of "OFF". A few months ago, I used the dash / floor option which is the first spot to the right of "OFF". The air is much cooler! I found that the A/C clutch was engaged. The owners manual does not mention anything A/C in this mode. Is this correct or is there a problem? Thanks!!

Im guessing if you have had this truck since 03 and have only used the vents blowing cool air then you have possibly never had snow. The AC runs anytime either of the two defroster positions are selected(ie completely on the windshiel or split between windshield and floor). Also doesnt matter what temp is selected...full hot to full cold. This is done to keep the windshield from steaming up, as AC acts as a dehumidifier. Very much needed during frost, snow and rain.

Hi. Your right. I live just south of Los Angeles. The truck does get snow but only when we go up to the local mountains. As far as the vents.... I am talking about the vents that are in the dash that blow at you. Not the ones on top at the base of the windshield. The symbol shows an arrow pointed at your head. This is at the 11:00 position. 12:00 is off. 1:00 shows an arrow at your face and at your feet. This is the position in question. 2:00 is heat for the floor (feet) 3:00 is the Defrost and feet and 4:00 is defrost only. Again, should the compressor run when the switch is pointed at the 1:00 position? The owners manual does not indicate this. Thanks
