whats the purpose of this?

so on the inside of my front and rear doors, there is a red reflector towards the bottom. why is it there?? is it meant to be a light on some trucks ( as an option)? i have been wondering about this for a while, i know some vehicles have lights there so i wasnt sure if that is what they are meant to be.

I've wondered that myself. My 7 year old son told me just the other day that he believes it is for safety when you have your door open along the road. I can't argue with him because I don't have a clue what it's for!

Thats right. Some have lights but they are also for safety when open.

The reflectors are there so that when you are stopped on the side of the road at night, the headlights from oncoming traffic hit them, letting people know that your door is open...it's a safety thing that really doesn't work. I think it's one of those "because we said so" things from the gov.

I've had these on the insides of many doors including my '72 Skylark... Make no mistake, I've seen these reflectors (yes some have lights as well) very clearly as I'm driving down the road and my headlights hit them... At least you know there is a door open ahead... Whether you have time to do anything about it is another thing ....

Ken....
