move overhead console info to dash area?

I have a 2004 F350, with the wonderful overhead console: outside temp, MPG, compass. Besides its tendency to go dim, it's a pain to read when driving in the daylight.

In my previous 2006 F250, all of that info was down in the instrument panel area, which made it a lot easier to see, and safer to look at. So I'm thinking about trying to "move" the console info down to somewhere in the instrument panel general area. My guess is that the data is calculated/stored somewhere else, and simply fed to the overhead console, so it might be as easy as finding the wires and tapping into them.

Has anyone done that before? I tried searching the forums, but mostly found threads about swapping clusters, which is a bigger project than I want to take on.

Any suggestions/tips, or a point to another thread, will be greatly appreciated.

thanks
