King Ranch Steering Wheel Leather Overlay

Today I started a new project. My steering wheel leather has a spot that was worn through and the rest looks like chit. I saw on Ebay someone had a kit for $75. I thought I could do it a lot cheeper. I looked for the king ranch leather and found a large piece for around $400. It was enough to cover 100 steering wheels. I found a remnant at a leather store that was close to the King Ranch color. I also picked up a pack of needles and some black thread. This is what it looks like after I did the bottom part. I wish I had a picture of the wheel before I put it on. Tomorrow I hope to get the top section done. I will have enough leather leftover to do more projects. Thinking the grab handles and what ever else I can find.

That's not bad, did you remove the old leather?

No I went over top. I looked at that but I think if you cut the lacing on the leather it would also unravel the rest of the lacing on the wheel. I like the extra leather on top, it makes for a better grip.

Finished it today. Cost was less than $15

Nice man, looks pretty good, why didn't you just get a steering wheel cover?

I wanted to keep with the King Ranch style. I don't find covers that attractive either. I've got about 1.5 hrs in it.

What's the brown stuff on the tan leather on the wheel it's on mine to and it will not come off?

I think the paint is coming off, from what I can tell. Thought about trying to match the color and paint it.
