Leather Color Repair ('07 Lariat Outlaw)

I've recently purchased a Lariat Outlaw, and have one flaw in the interior on the center console lid that is driving me insane! There is a small (1/4x1/4in) spot that the very top red dyed layer of the leather has come off. Does anyone one have any experience with those 3M leather/vinyl repair kits? Can I use one of these to make a near flawless repair considering I take the time to do it right or is it wasted effort? I'd like to exchange the lid but there aren't many Outlaw console lids floating around... Thanks a bunch!
