Just added cruise to my 07 XL
When I was looking into this I found a great deal of uncertainty. Adding cruise with factory parts worked for some and didn't work for others.
I picked up a steering wheel and clockspring out of an 07 F350 KR for $50. The steering wheel was rough, but cleaned up well enough since I didn't want to spend too much on parts that might not work.
After I pulled my steering wheel off, I swapped the black wire w/ pink trace from my old clock spring to the KR one. I did this because I didn't feel like going farther into the colum to get that off of the key cylinder.
There is a greay connecter on the end od the clock spring that plugs into the truck. My stock one only had four wires going to it from the clock spring and six coming from the truck. The KR clock spring has eight wires, but both of the physical plugs are identical. I haven't looked at a diagram yet, but I would guess that those extra two wires are for the climate controls on the steering wheel.
After swapping the black wire, it was the a straight forward swap. Directions are exactly the same as if you were just replacing your clock spring. I will add that both steering wheels were a PITA to pull. The metal on the wheel would break or flake off causing the puller to slip. What should have been a 20 minute job took close to two hours because my ld wheel was such a pain to pull.
After I got it all buttoned back up, my horn still worked and I didn't have any airbag lights. I then took it for a drive and I had cruise. I can't say whether the radio controls worked because I have an aftermarket head unit, but I don't see why they shouldn't.
