2004 F350 Overhead Console Compass Problem

Ever since I bought my 2004 F350, I've had problems with the overhead console compass getting out of calibration. I know it's calibrated to the correct magnetic zone. But every 2-3 days, I'll look up and the compass is blank and says 'CAL' underneath it. So I'll drive around in slow circles and it won't pick up and fix itself. Then I'll notice it's fine a few days later and working. I don't ever use the compass, but it bothers me when something isn't working like it should in my truck. Does anyone have a solution or have you had this happen in your truck?

I've heard it is soldering issue. Had the same problem in my 04. I figured that I'd probably do more damage trying to get it apart that fix it so I just left it alone.

Try google, here are the results:

Common issue, look at the images, Ebay offers repaired boards, but if you can solder, you can diy fairly easy.

Here are some descriptions on how to:
OH Display & Compass Repair - Diesel Forum - TheDieselStop.com

And here are some pics to it:
Webshots Rides offers thousands of the best car wallpapers.

I hope that helps or at least points you in the right direction.
