broken compatement latch...

i have an 2006, 6.0 lariat and there is a compartment to the right hand side of the driver just under the uplifter switches the little tab that u wuold pull to open the compartment is there but the piece that runs into the compartment is broken. how can i get this open without doing any more dammage? how does the lock release?

oh yea and i removed the fuse pannel under the stering wheel for a better look unside and i found a bottle of perscription pills (what they are im not sure i had to put everything back because i was in a campus parking fishing around in the truck waiting for class to start) so now i really need to get this thing open and see what is inside....

I have the same problem, I accidentally broke the handle off trying to get it open, I eventually just pried it open, luckily didn't break anything other than the latch assembly flew apart, idk what to do next, ig I'm in the market for a whole new glove box assembly, so annoying that is stuck open

I just took mine apart and looks like the latch mechanism gets lodged sideways at time and doesn't allow it to slide down and release. I'm probably just going to grease up both sides(Super Lube Silicone grease) of the latch mechanism and see if that fixes it.

Now....I just need to find where I can get this grease locally. Looks like Lowes, True Value, or Menard's has it.
