Auto trans shifter/brake interlock problem

Has anyone had a problem with the brake pedal/shifter interlock not working intermittantly, making it impossible to take the tranny out of park even with your foot on the brake pedal? I am having this problem with my '05 250. My mother had a '99 Taurus a few years back that did the same thing and it was a broken wire going to the switch on the brake pedal, but in that car there was only maybe 2 wires going to the switch and it was easy to see it. The 250 has a bundle of several wires all taped up in a harness and I can't visibly see anything broken. Again, it only does this maybe 50% of the time, and if you play around with the shifter and brake pedal a bit it usually will come out of park. I'm hoping that I don't have to go back to the dealer as the truck is out of its bumper to bumper 3/36,000 warranty

I have the same problem with my 04 F-250 6.0. I've read in some other threads that it's either the "shift lock solenoid" on the steering column or the brake pedal switch on the pedal itself, under the dash. Haven't figured out which is causing my problem...my trucks got 98k on it, so I'm real hesitant to take it to the shop for something that will cost me an unknown amount of $$$$.

I think this solenoid may be my issue with the cruise not cutting off right when I hit the brakes. Maybe Marc can help us on this one.

I can see the brake switch causing both problems, but not the shift-lock solenoid? I don't know the inner workings enough to be edumacated, but I ain't no spring chicken either

I crawled under my dash the other night and checked my switch, seemed to be ok, but you can't really tell just by looking at it. I might have to bite the bullet and go to Ford next week since I plan on taking a 3000 mile road trip next month.

try this.....

Next time this happens, push the brake in, try to turn the steering wheel a little bit and then try to move the shift lever down. sometimes if i turn in my driveway and i turn the truck off with the tires turned, it'll lock up.

Do you have brake lights?

My '97 F250 won't shift from park, and the brake lights won't work. I've checked all the fuses, traced all the wiring (that I can see), and put a new brake light switch in it, but still nothing. Could the solenoid actually cause the lights to quit working as well?

(Oh, and ditto on the cruise control, not shutting it off either.)
