Compass calibration
I have a 2003 F350 4X4 FX4 lariat dually. The overhead console has a fuel mileage readout and compass. Does anyone know how to calibrate the compass?

Did you try the procedure in the manual? I think you hold both of the buttons down for several seconds and you get into the compass zone, then a few more and you get into CAL mode. Then drive very slowly in circles till the CAL clears. If that fails then you may have a faulty unit. They have a problem with resistors falling off the circuit board and causing all kinds of strangeness.
My unit in my truck would not calibrate at all. Or it would then quit again and just say CAL. I found a thread on how to fix the resistors and soldered them. They were loose. Even after I fixed it, it took a few days to become reliable. Sometimes they are just broken and can’t be fixed. But there are places to get them. If the CAL problem is the one you have then let me know and I will see if I can remember where that thread was. |
