Exhaust Tips
Are exhaust tips a necessary thing? Was looking to get an MBRP 4" turbo back system. One of their systems comes without a tip and I've seen a few others that tips aren't included.
Was wondering if the tip is just for the show or had a functional purpose as to sound or whatever. |

just for show, some add a deeper sound to the exaust but mostly for show

The tip is just for show, it does nothing for performance.

They look better and will add a deeper sound to it

I don't have a tip on my exhaust. I just miter cut it. I am going to cut it again and put a tip on it though.

Well you can position your exhaust exit in a way on you truck to allow the outside air to suck the exhaust out and designing a tip to improve that suction. (wile the truck is moving)
you will have to do some tunnel testing to understand how the air conforms with the truck and exhaust. ![]() ![]()

Thanks guys. I didn't figure it could do much way out there at the end but I did wonder about the suction effect or the sound resonance.
Mostly i guess it's there for the pretty. Which will probably be important to the wife....so as you can imagine in that case I'll be shelling out for a nice shiny tip. |
