EGT PROBE INSTALL QUESTION
Ok i got an Edge Evolution for monitor and monitoring ALONE. I am ready to install my EGT probe. i am installing after the last port on the driver's side manifold. I have already drilled the hole, and now i got my NPT(pipe tap) but i don't know the best way to tap, as far as what tool to use. And also i found a quick way of installing it that most would find ridiculous but i don't want to f it up. And YES i know this is for an Auto meter analog gauge but i think i can rig it to work. But tell me if you guys think this is an alright way of doing it too...
http://www.dieselmanor.com/docs/auto...0-514_pyro.pdf its all the way at the bottom of the page, using a stainless clamp. Has anyone done it this way? I appreciate your guys input it helps me out ALOT and also i'm looking for some custom tunes to change out ye good ol' Edge Juice chip, post it please. THANKS! |

I'd rather just tap the hole., its not that big of a deal. You have 2 choices for turning the tap.
1. find a wrench that fits the tap, and turn it in 2. find a scoket that will hold the tap. 12 point will work the best. Either way, start the tap by hand( wont go far) and use which ever method mentioned above to turn the tap. Be sure to keep the tap straight, and back the tap out a round after turning it in a cple rounds. It'll clean out the threads of the hole. Take your time, and dont rush it. Also dont turn the tap completley past the hole, you'll lose the tap and have to remove the manifold to retrive it. |

Also, put some grease in the flutes of the tap, it will hold the chips from the threading process. Its real easy, just take your time and like he said in a half turn out a half. Only tap far enough to get a good bite on the adapter for the EGT probe.

as far as your question about the hose clamp method, We did that on my buddys 02 f-350. Seemed to work pretty good but im my opinion a tap would be the way to go.

COOL! so i started drilling the hole. i got about to other side...And my darn bit snapped... thats not even the bad part...the other half of the bit is in the manifold. so i guess im going to have to take the manifold off. HAHA(i'm so pissed)
