Welp, I took the gamble and lost. I installed the Sinister Diesel Y pipe at the end of last year along with BD Manifolds... Here we are only about 2K Miles later and the pissed off tea kettle, extreme turbo lag, and rolling coal are a little bit undesirable. The Driver side "Double Slip Joint" is rolling its own coal.
Ive been in contact with Sinister, and I'm waiting to hear back from them. I told them I dont want another one. I'd rather go back to an OEM setup from WPE (where I should have gone in the first place) but there use of the double slip joint and advertisement of how its "so much better than bellows" drew me right in like a moth to a flame.
The purpose of this thread is to share my experience as it unravels...
Yikes, that sucks. I almost bought one of those but didn't. I got a repaired pipe on standby for that time. Suprisingly my OEM is still holding strong. Hope they make it right.
Your not the only one that had problems with these over priced up pipes... I put a set on a neighbors and they were no where near fitting correctly, course sinister says they never have issues....
I called, and got tech support... He gave me his "really" response, and then asked me to email him pics. That was last thursday. This morning he emailed me and told me that he forwarded it to the warranty department. My email with the pictures stated that I did not want a replacement but rather an OEM style replacement... So lets see what they come back wit
I have already been eyeballing the MBRP set and wondered wether they were any good... And I know Ricemeister isnt into comebacks, so that right there makes them a viable option.
First set had a slight leak from the dual slip joint causing a whistle. The second set had the flange surfaces curved rather than flush causing them to burn out the gasket.
I went with Irate's T-4 up pipes. Not an issue ever since. :woot:

I install the MBRP ones when the stock ones blow out as well. So far awesome and haven't had an issue. I wish Flo-Pro would get off there hands and make a set as they already do fro the 6.4.
Uuughh, not good to hear, have had a set on my truck since last August. Well, guess when I look at those stock y-pipes in my shed, I'll know what I might be needing them for.lease:
Is there someone who does the bellows replacement on the stock pipes? Thought I saw that last year when I was parts shopping.
WPE has been modding OEM pipes with HD bellows. Then there's the option of buying your own HD bellows and having a competant welder do it, but with out a specific jig or engine to moch it up on, it might a gamble as well for fitment issues
These are the chit. Highly, highly recommend them.
FWIW, I also had a Y pipe where one bellow was replaced with straight pipe......it worked for a while (no leaks), but there was absolutely no increase in performance that I could tell. Working on the exhaust at all meant loosening everything up to try to get things aligned. It was a huge PITA and I'd never recommend it.
Ive had the IDP Long Y pipe on mine now for almost 4 years.
No fitment issues, no signs of failure.
Its has a single bellow on the driver side, one solid pipe on the other.
Ive had it off the truck 3 or 4 times since then.
I like the concept of the IDP piece (less joints for failure) but w/o a core the price tag is at $500... Sinister got my first and last time of spending $500 on a Y pipe.
Placed the first follow up phone call, over an hour ago, to see what we can get accomplished here with my situation.... The receptionist took my name and number "He's on the phone right now" & "I'll put this on his desk"...
Timeline so far:
Friday June 5, 2015: Phone call placed to Sinister at approx 3:51PM EST & Spoke to Tech Support
Friday June 5, 2015: Sent an email with pictures, as per instructions at approx 4:10 PM EST
Monday June 8, 2015: Received email from tech support @ 10:36 AM, letting me know that my email with pictures has been forwarded to the warranty department and they will be contacting me.
Thursday June 11, 2015: Called Sinister @ 2:34 PM EST to speak to warranty department. Left a message with receptionist.
Thursday June 11, 2015: 4:00 PM EST, I'm starting to boilover
Yea that would piss me off to, there y pipe are lifetime warranty that what they told me and there $499. I had an issues with the oil cooler and they gave me a store credit bc I wasn't going to take a chance of putting there oil cooler back in.
Welp after waiting and waiting and some more waiting, I called again today. When they answered I inquired about the warranty for their 6.0 Y pipe... "It has a lifetime warranty" I tell the guy that Id like to make a claim then and tell him the story. He puts me on hold, and then comes back on with, "There seems to be a mix up here, do you want your money back or do you want to file a warranty claim?" I tell him I want my money back or give me an MBRP Y pipe. He says "No, I can't give you something else. Remove the Y pipe, ship it to us for evaluation and if we find something wrong with it, we'll send you a new one"
I tell him thentruck cant be down for tear down, shipping, and waiting. He gives me option #2 Buy another Y pipe, return the old one for evaluation and if it is found deffective we'll refund your money" I go back and forth with him about how I'm not happy and don't want another one, but he totally stiff armed me and said those are my two options.
Long story short.... I'm taking a $500 bath plus my time over this P.O.S. With a "Lifetime Warranty"
DONT BUY FROM SINISTER DIESEL! THEY'LL SELL YOU JUNK, AND WHEN THE JUNK BREAKS, THEY WANT YOU TO BUY MORE JUNK WHILE THEY DETERMINE WETHER THE FIRST PIECE OF JUNK IS IN FACT JUNK!!!!
I say you start a thread called sinister diesel sucks. I'll bump it every morning. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. I know, I'm ridiculously squeaky. Also make a claim at ripoffreport.com, yelp, google reviews, and the BBB. Let me know where you post and I will second them. Never take crap sitting down, unless you're typing.
I wrote a product review on their Sinister website... "Its submitted for moderation" my feeling is it won't make it to the public view. Kind of strange how there are no reviews on their website. If only I could figure out how to leave a review on the MKM website where I actually bought them.
I'm actually tempted to start a Facebook and Twitter account just so I give a full assault. I have thought about the BBB. Ive never seen that website before that you referenced. I'll check that one out as well. Thanks for the support brother
