Updated turbo oil return line
I will have the turbo off soon for maintenance and got wind there is an updated turbo replacement line (larger) through ford OEM .
Has anyone upgraded this line? Any Part #'s? I had the turbo replaced early '05 by the dealer. Any chance they did it? How would I know? Thanks |

Yes there is and i had it done when they replaced my turbo 2 months ago. All i recall. Something about the old line collapsing. This is a thicker better line

It is the supply line that goes from behind the oil filter housing to the top of the turbo. If it is a hard line than it is the new version, if it is a flex line then it is not. The flex line interior is degrading over time and sending small particles of it into the turbo and clogging the VGT solenoid.

I went to the dealership. I asked about the updated line. The parts guy said the "return" line is the updated that they change all day long @ his dealership, never the supply line.
I looked at my supply line and it is @ least a 5/16" rigid to flex to rigid. Is this an updated line? Does anyone have a part number? I would like to purchase it. What gives? |

Light Surge after Turbo Replacement:
2004-2006 engines that exhibit a light surge on light acceleration up to 50 MPH, typically after a cold start, at steady speeds between 1800-2800, or when climbing a grade (towing or not), may have a sticking Variable Geometry Turbo actuator. If diagnosis leads to replacement of the VGT actuator, the turbo lube oil line--P/N 3C3Z-9T516-BA; should be replace as well. Broadcast Message 4459, TSB 05-21-5. No. The updated line is solid - no flex portion. Maybe there is an updated drain line, but I have never seen a different one. Last edited by Vizsla; 04-03-2009 at 06:44 AM. |

Excellent. Thank you for the information.
The oil drain line is larger (from what the parts guy explained). I'll have to see when I remove the turbo. I just called FORD again and asked about the oil feed line. According to the parts guy they don't ever stock it, sell it or replace it in the service area since he's been there....which is a few years now. Hmmmm.... I wonder what I am missing here? Maybe the parts guy isn't aware of the latest updated part. Happens more than occassionallys. There has been a new oil supply line out for a while. Use the given part # and update while you have your turbo off.

I bet your right. The updated line has probably been out for years and is now the normal everyday part that noone (but me) needs. The part number you guys gave me has been changed. The FORD guy located one @ a near dealership....120.00 is the price. OUCH!
