2004 Intake Butterfly Question

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello,

I finally got a chance to do my CCV mod and unfortunately had to replace the main elbow feeding the turbo, the silicone hose right off of the turbo and the black one feeding the intake manifold...ALL ruined from oil.

I did remove the intake elbow and discovered I indeed do have the "butterfly" in the intake elbow of my 2004 PSD with build date of 11/03

What is the purpose of this thing?

What does it do?

Is it helping me or hurting performance? If so, is it removeable without messing things up?

Thank you

The butterfly is easily removable by taking out the two gold screws holding it in place, rotating the shaft 90 degrees and sliding the butterfly out. Removing it hurts absolutely NOTHING. Mine has been out for 130K miles with no ill effects.

if your truck had any work done on it by ford, or a reflash they usually took the butterfly out at the dealer. it has been taken out of the programming for a long time now. so yeah, its useless.
