Just curious if I can break up these purchases a little... I am gonna order custom tunes and an edge insite but not sure I wanna fork over that much cash at once...
i ran my truck for like 3 months without gauges..after putting them in i couldnt believe how crazy egt went up from nothing knowing before..i would do gauges first though..intake exhaust, gauges, and then a programmer.
Question is after seeing that what did you do differently??
EGT's are always going to skyrocket at WOT....thats the nature of the beast.
With the right tune they will maintain an acceptable level. Guages are a monitoring device....no more and no less. Im not saying its a bad idea to have them, but what I am saying is the right tune will allow the EGT's to stay in an acceptable range and whether your watching guages or not really doesnt matter.
If you plan on pulling a 15K trailer up a 6000 foot grade with your performance tune installed then it makes alot of sense to monitor your EGT's for obvious reasons.
Anyway....just another point of view. I plan on installing a tuner shortly but will keep it on the conservative tunes till I finally do step up and get some sort of monitoring device (edge, guages, etc.)
K... I am gonna straight pipe, I have modded my airbox to allow more air in already, then I suppose I am ordering both tuner and gauges at the same time...
Yall are KILLIN me! I am suppose to be on a budget!!!!!
You could have saved yourself some money by not doing the intake as the stock one is good enough for atleast 500 hp and you won't see that with just a tuner alone. I know of several people that have over 500 hp and still using stock box. Just food for thought on that. That would have bought a couple of analog gauges by not getting an a/m intake.
I ran Cale's tunes with a 5" MBRP for about 55K without guages and ran my '99 7.3 for about 160K and the '02 7.3 has about 87K on it without guages...not saying its the smartest thing to do, but I personally never had any problems.
Eh... I really doubt I will drive my truck like a race car... I just want better throttle response, shifting and get up and go from stop... I pull a 20ft skeeter bass boat weekly about 1 hour one way to a lake with pretty level terrain...

I have the livewire I ran it for about 4 months, Temps never got out of hand so I got tired of looking at it so I chunked it in the back seat and havent seen it in a month.
Either your running some mild tunes or your defination of out of hand is pretty laxed.
