Old School SCT 1704.......worth upgrading?

Hi there,

I bought a SC 1704 in 2004 when it was the hot thing to buy. I never really ran it until recently. Personally I love it. It has 3 or 4 settings. I only use the tow safe for my 5th wheel and boat and hi performance for everyday use.

I read alot about these new SC tuners with custom tunes, not exactly sure what that is. I have a non-studded truck that had headgaskets done (never ran the tuner then) 2 years ago. It's got the 4" straight piped exhaust, zoodad, soon to be EGR cooler/valve delete from FirstCoast Diesel, CCV mod and soon to have coolant filter

These new "custom" tuners.......are they safe? Do they keep EGT's and boost low enough to not destroy my motor....I am now out of warranty and it's my dime if I blow my headgaskets.

Thanks

Im assuming you are referring to a superchips 1704 tuner. The custom tuners you are inquiring about are from SCT. These are entirely different companies

IMO as well as many others you would be much better off upgrading to a custom tuned SCT. Most custom tuners write their files to be safe for non studded trucks. Also the transmission tuning is much better with the SCT
