SCT "canned" tunes no better than.....
I've been a member now for several months and it seems that when talking about a tuner, SCT WITH custom tunes is the way to go. Fine. But, it seems that there's not much respect for the SCT with it's factory installed tunes. So, it's no better than any other tuner in this "from the factory" state?

I don't think anything is wrong with them but to get the full potential of you tunner custome is the only way to go.

I give a lot of credit to the sct canned tunes....they are very good out of the wrapper and the options to make adjustments make them that much better. Here is the thing, why not spend some extra cash and get a custom tune or two and see how your truck likes it. I would venture to say that you would have lower egts, better mpg and more hp if you did, but the basic tunes are really good too. Its all up to what each individual wants to do.

Here the deal.... The trucks are turds pre tuners..... Add a tuner and not so much a turd.... Reguardless the tunner program the difference is awesome. But the custom files are the best in hp...shifting.... And seamless performance

i ran the canned tunes for about a week before getting cales 140 hp extreme tune, from what i can tell my MPG's have increased VERY SIGNIFICANTLY over the canned tunes, and my truck seems to like the custom tunes better, i was impressed with the canned tunes alone, but absolutely blown away by the custom tunes

SCT is different from other tuners such as Banks, Edge, etc in that it actually reprograms the computer to respond differently to the actual inputs rather than intercepting the real inputs and supply modified inputs to the computer to try and trick it. That is a HUGE difference.

I'm right with the OP here.
I am so confused with the whole concept. You buy the SCT, it has 3 settings already on it? What are these settings? Do you jsut plug it in and tune it, and then unplug it? Is it easy to get back to the stock settings? How do you get them custom tuned? Send them to innovative diesel or what? And when you get them custom tuned, do you just plug it right in or what? |

You get 3 tunes when you get it, tow street performance. the there are a lot of people to get custom tunes for better hp, better shifting and max hp of 140hp or more depending on mods. cales custom tunes are 25 bucks each

To get a custom tune, you need to plug SCT into vehicle, and get what is called the "strategy code" basically the PCM's serial #. Its a series of #s and letters that the tuner needs for your specific truck to tell them what version PCM you have and I think its also a copywrite will explain in a sec. So you call or email the tuner, give them your strategy code, tell them your mods, and what tune you are looking for. Performance street, race, xtreme race, xtreme street, light tow, heavy tow, etc. They will either write the tune or pull it out of their library of tunes that they have written and email it to you. You download from SCT's website their flash loader software onto your computer, plug in you SCT via USB and using the software load your custom tune onto the SCT in one of the 3 custom tune slots. Then its the same as loading one of the canned tunes on your truck. Since they are emailing you a file one would think you buy the tune and email it to all your buddies. Wrong, its written for your strategy code so it will only work on your truck, so it maintains the copywrite for the tuner, that everyone has to buy the tune and not just copy one person's custom file. |
