$500 TB Exhaust?

I have two questions:
Went to a local muffler shop(old high school buddy runs it) and he quoted me $500 for 4" DP and 5" the rest of the way, aluminized straightpiped with a 6" tip. Does this sound like a good deal?

He also mentioned that the downpipe is already 3.5" and didn't know if it would make that much difference, but he would do it any way I wanted. What do you guys think about the DP?

Thanks in advance, you guys help alot of us that are getting started with our trucks and it is such a big help to get feedback from ya'lls experience!

There are vendors on here that will set you up for around $300 for what you just quoted.

Must not be too good of a "buddy" for that price...unless it's made of diamonds. A lot of people on here just straight pipe their exhaust and take off the cat/muffler. I have a HOG brand stainless 4" turbo back exhaust w/ a small muffler and love the sound.

You can get the exhaust for a lot less than his price.

Farmboysdiesel a member/sponsor of the site hooked me up with a 3.5" downpipe and 5" straightpipe no tip for low 300's. Don't beat on your buddy though small businesses are tough they gotta eat too. I say stay local and support your bud's business I know he would appreciate it

It's a fair price installed IMO. Factory down pipe IS 3.5" but has huge wrinkles from forming bends. Some exhaust mfg. use mandrel benders and are smooth. Some have issues with 4" downpipe hitting firewall
