How do you get to the up pipe and other Q's?
My new MBRP exhaust arrived today and I expect my new up pipe in a few days along with the EGR block off... so I poked my head under the hood and under/behind the motor trying to find that up pipe... WOW is it hard to get to!! So how do you get to it? Do you remove the turbo and go at it from the top?
Are there any articles with photos online that take you through this install? I searched but didn't find any. I'll also be installing the pyrometer. I read that it should go in the driver's side exhaust manifold where it curves up at the back of the motor, true? And is it preferred to drill & tap the manifold or to drill and weld on the supplied threaded bung? Do you worry about any shavings left in the exhaust damaging in the turbo as they blow through? Thanks, Scott |

Easiest method to access the passenger up-pipe is to remove the inner fender liner. Pyro, drill and tap the drivers side exhaust manifold, take it slow and easy, if you have a helper you can have them run a shop-vac next to the bit as you drill, or attach a small magnet to the base of the bit, stop every so often and clean the magnetized shavings off the bit.

Thanks, I didn't even think of the inner fender liners.
Anyone know off hand which tap I'll need... I'll go buy it on the way home from work if you can tell me. |
