sct owners, i need input
i read countless threads on here about SCT tuners. yeah, i admit i was skeptical. i picked up my X3 and installed my guages this past friday, had a very reputable diesel shop burn three custom tunes on it. the power is unreal, i mean silly amounts of power. the trans shifts feel more positive. i watch my egts and never let them get above 1k. is this amount of power normal? i guess what i'm asking is with watchful eyes on my guages and somewhat "disciplined"
driving, do i need to worry about studs right away?

If the custom tunes are not made for a studded truck it shouldn't be too much of a worry if common sense is used to control the throttle. I'm sure some others will have some more input on this. The insane power is normal for a custom tuned SCT. It's a common thing to get the adrenaline rush during a WOT run from a stop light smoking a mustang GT,LOL.

Yeah the power is insane. I had a hard time not "playing" on the street for a couple weeks.

mudvain where is your egt probe located? If its pre turbo you are safe to run up to 1250. Short bursts above that are ok as well. Running down the 1/4 mile for example and going above 1250 for a bit is ok.

Thats what your guages are for bud, just keep a good eye on those and stay within the parameters on you should be fine.

I got my SCT back in October. I'm just finally ok with not flooring it every time I get into the truck. Amazingly I can go across town now without my foot through the foorboard. lol. My gas mileage has improved again... but my rear tires are thrashed!

thats funny you mention that. the shop owner said right before i left the shop "hey guy, you might want to start looking at tire prices
" i didnt get it until i let er roll some coal.

I have been running custom sct tuning for over 2 years now without a single headgasket issue. You just have to be mindful of your egt's and you should be fine.
