Methanol injection
i have been thinking about getting a methanol injection kit for my 03 F-350 crew cab dually. 6.0 with automatic tranny, with true flow cold air intake. Any comments, good/bad on meth injection with the 6.0s ? oh and it has a 4 inch exhaust, no cat.

Welcome to the .org... I would first suggest you get a set of gauges, at the very least a pyrometer and boost gauge. Tranny temp is good too. I've got nothing against water/meth, but keep your methanol content low. Run straight water if you can its actually a good thing for your truck. If you're looking at it as a power adder, there are better ways to go about that. Get a custom tuned SCT tuner, it will give you a lot more power than water/meth could. It all depends on what you want the water/meth kit to do for you...

yeah i have a edge insight monitor, so im set as far as guages go. i would love to get a tuner but as of right now dad isnt so sure about turning it up any, and i figure if i can add a lil here and ther between safe stuff like intakes and meth kits then i will do it. I mainly do a lot of heavy hauling so i figure the lower i keep the egts the longer life it will have hopefully. And i guess the main thing i wanna make sure is that its safe and wont do any harm to the touchy 6 liter engine.

I ran the snow stage two meth on my cummins and I have one on my ford. I use it for dyno and play and tow, not for milage. I am a firm believer in it for added power, but I think it works best with a modded truck. Cools and adds power...... I would get one and I will always have one. I have one on my grand nation and it makes good power increases depending on mixture.

I think if its for power there are much better options. and if its for cooler egts, id just run water.

Id stay away from water meth unless you have headstuds. Methanol raises the cylinder pressure and can raise heads. also i guess plenty of heads have been lifted off a stock truck.an SCT with innovative tunes is much safer, just my opinion. If I were to add it to my truck id just run water injection for the EGT control as mentioned above and would find another route for power. If your going to go more than an intake and exhaist id definatly have a little put aside for an EGR delete and Headstuds.

If you adjust the amont of nozzle spray correctly and use no more than a 50/50 mix, you will be just fine, with or with out studs.

i ran a snow stage 3 kit. it was alright, i didnt use it for anything other then lowering my egts at the track, and even at that it barely helped. if you are using it for towing then maybe, but meth isnt the best thing to be sending through the motor either. if you want it for power, on the street, the track, id do nitrous...i run nitrous now and i love it

I just found the answer to my question looking on the zex site, it will add hp up to what you injectors are able to flow. So essentially you can put larger injectors in and retain a smaller turbo.
What I see on a preformance standpoint for meth is you get a power increase beyond the injector capability becuase you are contributing a combustible fuel to the mixture along with cooling. Also its mixing water and fuel deicer, and its not a 3000psi bottle. I am in no way an expert or really know anything about either, I am just play devil's advocate and posting what I see better between the 2, if anything is wrong here, please let me know, I am dont want to spread false info. |
