6.0 Straight pipe sound?

New to the site but would like a question answered that has bothered me for a while. Simply put, why is one truck louder than another? I have an 06 f250 with a 3.5"dp to 4" straight pipe, economy tune and stock turbo. My buddy has an 06 f250 with 4"dp to 4" straight pipe, extreme tune, and 03 turbo. Don't get me wrong my truck is loud but when my buddy steps on it his is 10x louder!!! Im not talking about turbo whistle!!!! I'm talking about engine sound. So, what would make his truck so much louder???

I have noticed that tunes can make a difference in the sound... That said your exhaust whether it be diameter or material can make a difference and then there is the all important fact that when you're in the truck it sounds different then when you are listening from outside the truck

The tune does make a difference. I love the sound when I have my Tony Wildman Extreme tune loaded! 45% VGT makes a great rumble and lope at idle. Sounds mean and loud when I get on it. Too bad it also smokes like freight train, has very little low end boost and light switch effect so I rarely use it. But man does it make that truck move!

Yup I agree with the above. I noticed a big difference in sound when I ran the atlas40 tune. And also the sound changed between the 05 to the 03 turbo.

Yep, tunes make a difference. My IDP Extreme race has more whistle and pissed off big block rumble than my SRL.

Exhaust diameter makes a difference also. 4" sounds more raspier than a 5" which has more deeper rumble.

Yea, on my IDP street and xrace it's a world of difference. I guess my truck is loud...I usually set off car alarms in the open driving by when I hammer it.
