03 Turbo

Is there anyway to help reduce the amount of whistle the 03 turbo makes? Can the wheel be swapped out with something else to help reduce the noise? The truck is straight piped turbo back which I know doesn't help any. When I was 19 driving this truck around I thought the whistle was the coolest thing in the world but lately it has been annoying me more than anything on long trips.

A cat will be the biggest whistle killer.

I say don't put a muffler on unless you want to get rid of the full throttle v8 sound when your going full bore.

Throw a cat and leave the muffler off and the sound is only really loud when you floor it.

I was trying to get my turbo to whistle so when I bought the 03 one and had it out on. Inwas heart broken to hear barely any whistle... So removed the cat and muffler. But I might put cat back on too because of whistle but I'll leave muffler off and suggest you do the same for great sound and minimal whistle

The best anti-whistle upgrade is a newer turbo. One of the reasons Ford changed the turbine wheel was to reduce the noise.

To answer your original question... you can swap in an LLY Duramax turbine wheel.

Although I bet you could find someone will to swap you turbos and pedestals for a 2004 turbo

I actually have an LLY turbine in my possession. I'm waiting for an 03 turbo to arrive on my doorstep to physically check the dimensions and fitment

You can't fully get rid of the 03 whistle without a different turbine, a muffler will quiet it but probably not enough for your liking

My buddy has a lly and wants it to whistle like his 03 powerstroke did is it a straight forward swap of turbines?

Swap out the 03 for a 04 or newer. I have an 04 with 150,000. I bought an 03 just for the whistle and mine is sitting on my tool bench. If yours is in good shape I'll go straight up and pay shipping both ways.

Adding mufflers would change the sound all around as well as everyone said.

Put a muffler on it. Cheapest way to your goal it might work might not but it will bring it down a notch. Ppl say banks seems to kill the most sound. I have a magnaflow and love it with the 03 sound. If that doesn't work then get a turbo with the 13 blade turbine
