Just Got A 6.0 School Me

I am new to the diesel thing. I know some 6.0's have problems and so be it. What mods can you do to get better fuel economy. I got a friend with a Sierra that has a 6.6 and he gets 17 city and 20 highway.

Oh, what the hell is a Zoodad Mod and a Foil Delete.

It's hard to tell which years 6.0's are better then others - some '03's - the first years they were out - are nothing but junk - others, like mine - an early '03 - well, Ford told me "you must have got one of the good ones". '05's seem to have done better. '04's they were still working out the too many to name - bugs.

Zoodad mod is cutting out an area of your grill, stage-left, directly infront of the air intake tube - allows a free flow of air directly into your intake. Better air flow.

If you want to increase mileage - stay off the go-pedal, keep your RPM's low at highway cruise - meaning stay around 55-60, and free up breathing and exhaust. Aftermarket higher flow intake and less restrictive turbo-back (TB) exhaust. These are the best ways. Adding to that would be a tuner - but as most have stated in other threads - the power rush with the tuners just eats up the mileage - too much fun with the power. Have no idea what a foil delete is.

The foil delete does not apply to the 6.0. There is a link in the tech files on the Zoodad. As for helping with the mileage. I recommend a custom tuned SCT gauges and 4 inch exhaust. An aftermarket intake is not necessary with the 6.0

Thanks for the information. I will not be pushing the truck hard it is not an everyday driver. What is a good brand of exhaust for these. I don't know much about the SCT programmer. Where do you get it from?

Just about any of the vendors here can get you an SCT. I run tunes from Innovative Diesel and Tony Wildman. As far as the exhaust Go with Farmboys diesels budget kit or get an MBRP 4 inch stainless from one of the vendors as well

Also my gas gauge is weird. It left this morning and it was on F now I have a half a tank and the digital stuff is crazy. I have only traveled with a full tank 40 miles.
