stage 2 too much?

I purchased a mtw s1 last year and absolutely loved the thing. It spooled fast, towed great, and made good power. I had it matched up with just a stock 65hp tow tune on my livewire and it towed my 37 ft toyhauler very nice. We'll some stuff happened a couple weeks ago( see my other post) but I talked to adrian and he covered it under warranty, but due to the time crunch I was in he only had parts to ship me out an s2 in time. We'll I towed my trailer to the oregon coast over the mountains for a little duning this weekend and I had problems with it. First of all the lag was pretty bad. While towing it up a good long hill I floored it to see how it would do and noticed that the turbo was cutting in and out? It still had plenty of power to get me where I wanted to go but just didn't seem to run smooth. I am not sure if it's due to a lack of fuel and just need to run bigger injectors or if I supplemented it with a php FICM tuner it will be enough to cure it? It's a 64.7 turbo with what looked like a wicked wheel setup. I don't know that much about it since adrian is kinda hard to get a hold of sometimes. (I know this is old news but he did come through for me in a big way so that was good). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I think you need some custom tuning for a Stage 2. I had my Stage 1 upgraded to a MadMax and with my Stage 1 tuning, it was a little laggy and surged bad at WOT and after letting out of the throttle. I had TSD adjust my SPD and now it runs absolutely perfect, no lag and NO surging. I think tuning will fix you problem

Definitely should look into getting a different tune for it. I recently swapped my stock turbo out with an MTW stage 2 and I am running my hybrid version of the MPD tune Chris at TSD wrote for my stock turbo and it's running pretty damn good. I will probably have a couple little things tweaked with my tune by Chris after I get some more data for him, but I am pretty impressed with the stage 2 with my stock injectors.

Ok. I had Eric at innovative get me some tunes a year ago. I asked him if they needed adjusted for the larger turbo and he said it should be fine since the tunes are built pretty good. I put it on his extreme tune and ran it down the highway after I dropped my trailer and it hauls ***. I had a tow tune from him also but I thought that the tow tune I requested from him was a low hp tune and since I had a bigger turbo now I thought I would try out the heavier 65 stocker to see if that was better. I'll try his custom on the way home and see how it compares. Do you guys think that ficm tuners are nice? I have been debating getting one for some time and it's really appealing seeing that guys are getting a little better milage with them too. Thanks again

I've ran PHP's FICM tunes on my truck for 2 years now, and I love them.

Sounds like you are over speeding the turbo. At what RPMs do you experience the issues?
