Initial impressions of my build
Simply put, I love it. Studded, deleted, Barder stage 2, SCT with a whole bunch of custom street, track, and tow tunes, PHP Ficm tunes, AFE stage 2 CAI, AFE intercooler tube, Edge Insight CTS, blue strings, 6.4 banjo bolts, and likely some other things I'm forgetting.
So far, I have put roughly 500 miles on the truck since its been done. For the first few days I ran it with a Loony Wild tune and the Atlas 80 FICM tune. Its got some lag off the line but it hauls when I'm in the boost.
On monday, I towed with it for the first time. Weight of the trailer was roughly 5k pounds. I used the Gearhead 8k tow tune but kept the Atlas 80 on. EGTs ran up to about 900 on normal acceleration and peaked at 1200 during the largest incline I encountered. At speed, EGTs were around 750.
Today, I had a 12k pound trailer to haul around. For this I used the Atlas 40 with the Gearhead's Max Tow tune. Again, EGTs peaked at 1200 and were in the high 800s to mid 900s during acceleration and in the 700s while cruising.
After dropping off the trailer, I put the Loony Wild back in but decided to try the Hercules FICM tune. It still has quite a bit of lag if I get on it right off the line but the throttle response during regular driving seems much improved. EGTs under heavier acceleration were in the 900s-low 1000s getting to speed and dropped to the 500-mid 600 range while cruising. Under normal acceleration, EGTs were in the 700-800 range.
As far as MPG, my first tank with no towing yielded 12.5mpg. Right now, being slightly more accustomed to the truck and even despite still getting on it more than I probably should and all the towing, based on my fuel gauge, I'd estimate I'm going to be around 14.5-15 mpg. Before the build, when stock, I typically averaged 14.7mpg and saw up to 17.6mpg when running just the Atlas 40 FICM tune.
Next step is the lift, wheels, and tires. Definitely need the tires soon. I don't think mine are going to last long.
