Tranny suggestions

Mods are in my signature. I don't expect to go with bigger injectors. No sled pulling or racing. I do tow. Tranny seems to be shifting erratically on harder accelerations lately. 103,000k on truck. Stock tranny. I've had the 3-5 shift flare since truck was new. I'm in Colorado and looking for suggestions on what stage and who to use when the time comes. Would like it to be very stout and hold up to the higher hp and tq numbers. Thanks.

My vote would be to just get on the waiting list for a BTS transmission. IMO, it seems like once you have issues with a 5r, they get tough to get running right.

Again....if you're gunna do a tranny make sure its POST OPP!

Haha, it means all obstructions have been removed so you won't have to worry about getting spun around for some jailhouse action.

I've heard really good things about Twisted Diesel, Warren Diesel, and Darkhorse Diesel.

You are never going to go with bigger injectors? Hmmm...


If it was me I would try to find another low mileage stock tranny and get some better tuning.


The 5r110 is know to be a very good transmission. They last a long time in stock form even with higher hp vehicles. If yours was acting up from the beginning then there is a possibility that something was wrong from the factory.

Built transmissions do not shift exactly the same as stock. I prefer the shifting characteristics of my stock tranny for daily driving... BUT... I love my built tranny for racing.



I would not imagine a stock 5r110 having trouble with a stock injector truck unless there was something wrong with tranny or tuning issues. It should hold up fine at that power level.

I run an Andy Warren tranny and highly suggest them to people planning on building their truck... but for people staying pretty close to stock, I recommend a stock tranny.


Kind of how I would not recommend twin HPOP, a full fuel system, and a reg return to someone with stock injectors. I just does not seem like it is necessary (but definitely not a waste)
