Question Guys with Powermax turbos

I don't want to name the turbo builder or the tune writer because I truly don't believe there is anything wrong with their products and don't want to turn anybody away from them.

With that said, I recently bought the equivalent of a powermax with a billet wheel and had my "hot street" tune updated to match the new turbo. I knew to expect a little more lag which it definitely had, but the updated tune helped a lot and when it lights it gets to 29lbs on my livewire quickly and pulls hard.

My issue is smoke. I have to drive like I have an egg on the pedal to keep from leaving a trail of smoke until the turbo lights. If I get locked up at 55-65 or so it's d@mn near impossible to accelerate with out smokin everybody out.

I'm pretty confident that I've got everything sealed up, but I'm going to check again when I get a chance. Just curious what y'all have experienced with these turbos. I don't mind blowin a little smoke when I'm nailing it, just don't care to see any on my normal drive to work.

Thanks for reading. You guys are a great support group when I'm feeling frustrated with my 6.0

I would think that if your getting 29 lbs you've got things sealed up. Id kill for that kinda boost.
Have you talked to the tune writer and told them what you have going on?

I have not talked to him since I got this first revision. I guess I just wanted to know if I was expecting too much out of this setup.

I have a pmax turbo and only smokes when I do a WOT run, but under normal not a trace of it.

I run SPD tune by TSD and runs like a champ.

Black smoke is unburned fuel, talk to your tune writer, and check your intake filter.

What kind of smoke? Sounds like maybe a seal is gone in the turbo did you have the turbo balanced or rebuilt? Do you have any oil in the compressor housing of the turbo? Can you loosen the down pipe and check for fuel or oil on the turbine side? Maybe an injector is sticking. Once the turbo lights does it still smoke?

It's black (fuel) smoke not blue (oil). Turbo was built and balanced from new powermax. The smoke will clean up once the turbo lights and it idles and cruises clean.
