Talking programmer.

o.k I've had the EGR cooler replaced, The oil cooler replaced and the degas bottle plus some lines replaced.(After having daily major puking problems stock). My truck might puke a little bit on a big hill with an 18 foot boat and trailer.(under 4500#) Granted I'm running 38's but I have 4:56 gears. But if I plug in the programer it pukes in tow safe and eco just a little bit, Not like before the friggin entire bottle and more. But now I smell a funny/wierd smell out of the defrost/ heat when this happens, Any ideas I don't want to get into warrenty issues, but if I have to stay stock I will, till I build it right. Or Is there one more issue to resolve before I go modified? ( Marc doesn't think head bolts it never over heats or raises temp)The difference is huge between stock and eco. I don't even use high performance it has wierd shift points. Any ideas
aybe I'm in the o.k range of venting now and just have to get ued to it.

Maintain your awake what do you think. Plus I need to submit the dual black smoker for RGOM jan.

When the EGR cooler pops, water that is evaporated turns into steam. Steam inside a cylinder will cause higher pressure which will cause the headbolts to stretch even further, allowing the headgasket to separate, allowing compression to seep between the layers. 99% of the times, when you need to change your EGR cooler, your headgastets have moved or blown. It doesn't mean it will overheat. The smell in your cab is probably the heater core that popped from excessive pressure in the cooling system.

The headbolts on these Fords are grade 5 metal and a torque to yield. They have a tendency to stretch and stretch and stretch and stretch. My thought is that you will need to change your headgaskets.

Is there any way to prevent the egr cooler from failing? What causes it and at what mileage does it usually happen. Will disconnecting the egr elect. plug on the egr valve help by keeping it closed? Thanks

What causes it and at what mileage does it usually happen. There is no special time or mileage.

Will disconnecting the egr elect. plug on the egr valve help by keeping it closed? The only way to keep it from exploding is to cap off the exhaust going to it.
Thanks,
DJ

I'm with DJ...That smell in your heat/defrost is a key ID feature of a busted heater core!
