New to Diesel & want to start mods....

Ok, guys I have been lurking around for a bit and it seems as though everyone is in favour of the Excal SCT3.
I have a bone stock 2007 SWB Lariat Crew 4x4. I am really happy with the truck but plans are to add small lift or leveling kit so I can get 35's and nicer looking wheels, and some type of performance mod to make the truck a little more fun.

Why the SCT3? Is it that much better than bully dog, edge etc??

Yes its that much better the SCT with Custom Tunes my pick would be Innovative Diesel reason being the SCT not only tunes your engine but also tunes the tranny which the bullydog and edge don't they just destroy it. SCT w/ Custom Tunes is a night and day diff

Lets put it this way you wouldn't want to line your truck up with any truck on here unless you have an SCT

In a word YES!!!!! Bully dog and the like are crap. If you like your transmission go with a custom tuned SCT. I recommend Innovative, but any of the custom tuners are excellent

i would get an intake or a drop in filter, any type of exhaust you like would work. most go with a straight pipe kit. some gauges to monitor, get a leveling kit so you can put some wheels and tires on there and have fun

sct is the only way to when tuning these trucks. i would call Eric @ innovative diesel or Doug @ gogodiesel.com

night and day diff with custom tuned SCT X3 and a generic tuner like BD, Edge, Banks ect.

you deff want to run gauges as well...

you dont need an intake... the stock intake will flow more than enough air right now but i do suggest straight piping your stock exhaust or getting a 4" TB kit

Thanks for all of the good info guys. Bring me up to speed on the SCT. Is there more than 1 version? What is the going rate, and are there any used ones out there for sale?

I would like to start doing some mods but need to keep it on a budget, my girl starts med school in Jan so we dont have double income anymore

You're best bet is to go with a package deal where you get the X3 and the Gauges, you save a little bit by going that route and you really should have the gauges to watch your temps. You can check out Stealth Automotive Inc he has package deals on there.

It says it comes loaded with 3 tunes. Are these the tunes that everyone is running or do you add a custom tune?
