Exhaust options for Cali
Can any of the fellow Ca. strokers fill me in on what exhaust mods we can get away with in Cali.? Are the cat back systems worth looking at?

Not too sure. I live in san jose, ca... i was reading somewhere that as long as your diesel is over 8500 pounds you dont have to worry about smog... I assume that is what you are worried about?

it's against the law to do any form of modification to your exhaust in California. Obviously, it's up to the cop that pulls you over if he wants to give you a hard time. My truck is so loud I've been pulled over three times and ticketed twice cuz it was so loud. I think most cops will let you get away with 4" turbo back with cat and muffler in place.

You can do what ever with the exhaust. Like Darsey said its up to the cop if its a problem or not. I've been straight piped, no cat no muffler for a couple of months now and the second day I was rushing to the bank and punched it as soon as the light turned green so I could get over. Well there was a cop behind me and didn't even get looked at.

I just read that California is supposed to finally allow CARB testing for aftermarket diesel parts, so maybe it will actually be legal to run stuff when they get that going. Of course, they're not gonna make the straight pipes that 99% of you run legal. LOL
