How close is too close for down pipe ?

Hey guys, great forum with lots of help and info. I have a question, over the weekend I installed a MBRP 4" TB with cat delete, my down pipe on the bend to the cat delete is aprox 1/2" from the foil, is this too close?

I thought my EGT's would drop but it seams like they are the same if not hotter, could be I am just keeping my foot in it more to hear the sound.
