Oh now what is going on?

Ok so I finally got my shifting figured out with my extreme race tune. So last night I'm coming back from hanging out with the guys and I catch a red light right next to my buddy in his 07 VW GTI. We've been battling back and forth for a while, and we're pretty close, giving him the edge in all out speed.

We line up at the first light and I dont have time to do a boosted launch so we just take off (I was still in 4x4 anyway though) We go pretty evenly and with every gear shift he is pulling just slightly on me.

Hit the next red light. I do a boosted launch and blow his doors off. I can hear his FWD squeeling with every gear change struggling to keep up. Come up on the next red light and I hear him yelling how it's going to be hard to keep up with me with that launch, I laugh.

One last set of red lights here so why not, I'll show him what it can do one more time. I do a boosted launch and he blows by me right off the start. I feel like I'm stuck in 3rd gear or something with how slow it's accelerating. What the heck? I take it out of 4x4 and try driving it. I am getting no black smoke at all coming out now... still in extreme race mind you. Truck now feels stock power wise... what the heck is going on? So I continue driving down the road, truck still shifting OK and still running fine, just very slow and with no smoke. I look down and my speedo is reading 0! I'm still rolling at about 50mph here... I call my buddy and before he even picks up the speedo kicks back on and the truck goes back to normal blowing smoke as usual.

What happened here? Is there some sort of limp home fail safe nonsense built in here? These red lights were pretty close together, I couldn't have held it down for more than 5 seconds at a time!?

The 6.0's do have a limp mode. I'm not sure if thats how they act when it kicks in, but it sure sounds like it.

This had to be it, the first time I did a boosted launch I did hold it boosted for a little while waiting for the light to change. Guess I'll remember not to do that again!
