How to verify Powermax?

So the truck I bought supposedly has a Powermax turbo in it....according to the previous owner. It seems louder than a stock turbo, but it doesn't scream like I've heard most Powermax turbos scream. So my question is this...how would I go about verifying it's not a stock turbo? Are there any external differences that I could see when I pop the hood? Or would it be one of those things where I need to remove the turbo?

The most common way is the word "garrett" on the outlet is upside-down as the turbo sits in the truck

2005 King Ranch F-350: Studded and O-Ringed, BPD Oil Bypass, 205/30s, Stage 2 KC Turbo, ODAWG Ported Manifold, 4" TB Exhaust, Stage 2 AFE Intake, Billet Torque Converter, BPD 58V FICM, BPD Water Pump

Thanks...I'll have to look for that. The only reason I doubt its true is because the guy was one of those people who basically gave a shop a blank check to make his truck so he wont have any other issues with it. I have a feeling he got taken a few times...for example...it's got the bulletproof kit in it from BPD...except they didn't stud it when they did the gaskets and everything else.

Welp I just checked and the Powermax is right side up...theres also a "remanufacture" sticker on the turbo...so I guess its just a stock replacement huh?

Yep, the "garrett" is right side up....looks like a stocker to me. It might have an upgraded wheel (maybe) but the outside of the housing looks stock. Might wanna replace that boot though, its probably leaking 1-3lbs of boost with how much oils coming out of it..

Pull your intake off and see how big the compressor wheel is, it's a lot bigger than stock. Take a pic

Its stock, power max has a square wiring harness block, yours is round. Idk how to upload pics or else I'd send you a side by side comparison of a power ax an stock turbo. Also the way the bolt pattern is for in compressor side tells me its a stocker even more, unless its an old pmax. Although! It could be an 03' reman turbo which wouldn't be bad at all

It's not a Powermax, that's for sure. Looks pretty stock of some sort to me.

Its definitely not an 03...I had an early 03 about 3 years ago and that thing screamed lol...this is is kinda loud but nothing like a powermax or 03 turbo.

I contacted the previous owner because he told me it had a powermax in it...turns out it doesnt! He said the shop that installed it ordered it and he's having them fax the paperwork over so he can look at it. I called the shop the work was done at and they were "too busy" to talk on the phone and wanted me to drive an hour and a half to come to their shop.

He also said the truck was just fully serviced...after seeing the way my oil and fuel filters looked...there's no way that could be true either. Finally...when I bought it he said it had the BPD kit in it...the cooler and valve are still there so I assume it's the BPD EGR cooler...so maybe one thing he said was done actually happened. I don't think it's so much this guy flat out lied to me as much as it's the shop he took it too taking advantage of him because he didn't know anything about diesels.
