Free Tunes TESTED!!!!!

Well I drive a LOT this year. Twice in the last two weeks, and several times this year. The best I have gotten from Houston to Dallas 207 miles from my house to the I-20 turn off to West Texas. My VERY best mileage was 21.9mpg @ 63 - 65 MPH cruise the WHOLE way. I D/L'd the free tunes and the MAX Economy caught my eye. I took the same route, and even though the 21.9 MPG was in December (colder) The Free Tune I am talking about snapped off a thrifty 23.6 MPG @ 63-65 MPH!!! OH This time I also added a 95 gal aux tank, and with over 900 pounds of additional fuel I still got impressive mileage. I will say that my truck was not all that happy with Max Economy for any thing other than highway driving. It shifted odd, this may just be my truck. I think I will be using the Max Economy for future trips! OH the first fillup with the new tank costs $479. There are several extremely reasonable aux or transfer tanks priced well.

what brand aux tank are you using ?

thats great mileage. do you have stock exhaust and intake or aftermarket?

The shift points are probably set to shift sooner so that it will keep you in a lower RPM range. Not sure though, have not run it yet. Great mileage though. Was that with pen and paper?

Logan, that is what seemed to be happening, but the truck acted different than I was used to....

Pistol Pete, I have a FBD 4" Turbo back, and a zoodad mod cut out, and the SCT, that is all....

Sikktruk, I got it from Nothern Tool, I think it is branded RDS? I think it may be one they have made or something, but do not quote me on that. I LOVE it so far.....

Seriously the biggest secret is "Back off the F&$%ing turbo. The MAX ECON did seem to keep the turbo psi lower even on the highway, but I could be imagining things ....

That is GREAT mileage... I'd like to take my 18 mpg that I get on the hwy with the performance tune and get 20+ with my new economy tune...

That is awesome to hear! I do know those tunes do shift differently that most folks are used to, but I think if you give your truck a little time to adjust, or you may even need to adjust your shift pressures a bit, we usually do, you may end up liking it. It appears as if your mpg does! LOL
