Starting my build...

Well I just got done with a beginner parts order for this truck. The overflow tank had a crank and I am knocking out the small stuff first. I have Amsoil OE 15w-40 synthetic diesel, Racor filters (fuel, oil and transmission), new overflow tank and the blue spring kit. Hoping to get this knocked out next weekend given that everything arrives on time.
Got the truck checked out today by a PSD tech from Ford and everything is sound; no injector issues or codes. Next will be 4" MBRP exhaust, BPD FICM and livewire CTS with tunes from innovative. I am shooting to "bullet proof" this truck by the end of the year with head studs and BP oil and EGR cooler and I will step up the tune.

Also, just to get some feedback. He quoted me $3,500 for labor and parts for studs, gaskets, BPD EGR cooler and oil cooler (fluids and all). I think this sounds very reasonable.

He works for a Ford dealership and does work on the side. I used to do the same before I joined the military. I had him run through the truck, scan it and inspect it and he didn't want to charge me anything. He really seemed to know his stuff to. Had two PSD's in the driveway that he was wrenching on also. I swung back by after grocery shopping and brought him a case of beer. This would have cost me at LEAST $200 from a dealer. If anyone in the San Diego/East County area wants his number, I am sure he would appreciate the business.

Well, she has been under the knife since yesterday. I couldn't get the truck started after I left work the other day. Turns out that the tech who did the EGR cooler before I bought the truck used an excess amount of RTV. It ended up starving my HPOP of oil because it clogged the screen. We are bulletproofing the truck with a BPD egr cooler and oil cooler. He is also going to take out my HPOP, inspect it and clean it. Will keep everyone updated! Tuning will shortly follow.

IMO you are starting your build the right way, by having everything checked to make sure the truck is running right it will save you head aches later. Getting a CTS or gauges is also a great idea, even for a stock truck, just did work on a truck neighbor's fathers. He had trouble on a long trip he went truck was running rough, also had a check engine light. I put my CTS in it and pulled codes, cleared them and the truck ran better. Drove the truck with CTS and monitored all the functions, none checked truck over, then gave it back. Any way good luck by the way you are doing things is going to really help.

MTW stage 4 turbo, built trans by Andy Warren, 4:10 Detroit lockers.

Also I forgot to mention, that first order that I placed was involved in a train crash in Amarillo on the 25th. Not sure if or when I will see that stuff in the near future....

So for my next round of mods. I am looking at doing a cat back so I don't get nailed with fines here in Cali for messing with my exhaust. I am also looking at getting the Livewire TS with tunes from Innovative? Anyone have any other suggestions for tunes and monitors/programmers? So many tuners out there to go with, Innovative seems pretty solid. They also give a 5% military discount.

So far you're on the right track however I'm curious as to why you wouldn't do the work yourself? Is it because of time constraints? There's is no better way to get to know your vehicle than to tear it apart and do stuff to it. Good luck with the build!

This is actually the first time I have let anyone work on my vehicles. Active duty military, no garage, apartment complex, all of my tools are in Colorado and I needed to get it done ASAP. I am underway right now. Picking up the truck when I get back.
