sterling 10.50 gears

I switched my 3.73 gears to 4.56 on the LSD and I'm trying to set up the pinion shims and carrier shims and the pinion is hitting the carrier case. I'M trying to find out what I'm doing wrong here any helps is welcome.

Do they use different carriers for lower gears?

There is no carrier break for ford gears.

What brand gears are they? That matters a lot. Some will tell you to start with the factory shims and adjust from there, but it all depends on what brand. If theyre Yukon gears, it'll take .016" additional pinion shims over stock, almost always. Sometimes .018. My guess is the shimming is just way way off.

On my truck 4:10 up takes a different carrier than 4:10 down.
