First pull with mod'd '05

Picked up a new-to-us travel trailer and got the chance to pull it about 100 miles last night. Was running with dfuser's towing tune. Ended up with a couple questions you folks might be able to help with:
1. Tranny temp made it's way to about 180, and pretty much stayed there, even when I spent a fair amount of time with torque converter unlocked. Is there some type of valve that opens up more flow to the cooler at that temp to try and maintain that temp? I have been able to push it up to 200 pulling a liquid fertilizer trailer (~ 15,000# in and out of farm fields), so I know the gage will go higher.
2. How bad would the shift quality be if I asked dfuser to put together a tune that locked up the TC in 4th, 5th, and 6th? Some of the hilly roads around here aren't too conducive to pulling in 6th, but whenever it drops down to 5th, it unlocks the TC until I get up enough speed to get it locked in but not fast enough to shift to 6th. Maybe it could briefly unlock the TC during the shift, but then lock it right away.

Was fun putting the girl to work (though I never got over 1000 deg on the Pyro, so I really wasn't working it), but burning $4.50 fuel kind of hurt.

they do make a TC lock up if you want me to reckamend some one mp me

I have a stupid question.

1. I live in Arizona and pull a 5th wheel toy hauler up north allot. How do you know if the TC locks up and un locks? I do not know what to listen for or hear.

2. What does the TC do diffrent when it is locked vs unlocked?

The way I tell if the TC is locked up, or not, is to lightly punch the throttle - if you can increase engine speed without increasing ground speed, then the TC is unlocked (assuming you didn't punch it hard enough to downshift). I'll have to let someone else more knowledgable with TC's to explain what is happening when it is locked vs. unlocked.
