Ford does not replace the bolts with studs, UNLESS you have a dealer that's willing to use the aftermarket studs.

The only thing they updated is, like Lloyd said the torque pattern, thicken the head gasket to allow a little more forgiveness before blowing, and Ford also tighten the tolerance for thehead themselves.

Some dealerships will install your studs .... some wont.
OH ..... I have an '06 and witnessed head bolts were installed. Tech installed my ARP Studs!
Could not have been said any better.

Or you could be like me and DIY

This is all the install is, the main work is getting to this point unless you have warped heads or blown gaskets already then they pull the heads...

I had a question, I didn't buy an extended warranty thru dealer when bought my '05. As far as warranty work for the head gasket issues, what was the general timeframe/mileage that the basoc warranty would cover for this issue? I thought the engine itself (the powerstrokes) came with more than a 36,000 mile bumper to bumper, like a 5 year - 100,000 mile warranty, is this true?
think I am getting the coolant puking issue, have a brother in law who is a service manager at a ford dealership, so figured he could help push thru somehow and I could bring in the headstuds.

the engine has the 5 year 100,000 mile warrenty with a 100 dollar deductable for any warrenty work. entire powertrain has 5 year 72,000 mile I THINK (dont quote me on that) and everything else is 36,000 bumper to bumper
