Question Blown Turbo! Rebuild, New Factory Or Garrett Stage 1 upgrade??

(2003 4x4 6.0 230K) Last week 1mile from job site loud grinding noise out of nowhere I actually thought a motorcycle was passing me but realized it was coming from my truck sounded like grinding metal lost power, boost everything had to put in 2 to help get it the rest of the way. truck never overheated. took to SMS motorsports turbo will be pulled tomorrow so ill find out how bad it is. I do not have heads or studs done. So my question is......

Question: 1- If Turbo can be rebuilt should I rebuild my same turbo? My problem with this is that don't really trust or know any reputable co. in my area to do it.

2-Buy Reman straight from ford @ $1200 (W/ 1 year warranty)

3-Upgrade to Garrett stage 1 $1500 (Will this hurt truck? Heads is my worry??

Let me know your thoughts... This truck has been great to me 230K ive only had to change glowplug moduale, waterpump, small things here and there

All 3 options are ok with a stock bolted truck. Seeing your sig I'd go with the Stage 1. It will benifit you in the long run. If you want just a reman then I would look on line because there are much better deals on a remans then the cost of a ford. On the option 1 front unless you have a turbo rebuilder in mind I would stick to the already rebuilt turbos. These seems to be finikey on the rebuild side.

All that said GO WITH THE PMAX..."stage 1"

Most vendors here could set you up with a reman...I would go with Performance Truck Products is a pretty good site and lowest price on the pmax 1179 shipped!!! and its a brand new turbo with no core. So you could keep yours and have it rebuilt and sell it or keep it as a spare.

Not to derail your thread but do you have a pic of the 2013 interior in your truck? I'd love to see what that looks like.

This^^ I had one for about a year before I went to bigger injectors. That turbo spooled better than my stock did w/ no additional tuning needed. I never had one issue with the turbo and I drove the dog chit out of it.

P.S. X2 on seeing that interior and a couple pictures in general of the truck. It looks friggin sweet in the avatar picture!

The only issue with the mtw s1 is wait time and the fact that he rebuilds the turbo from your core. Other than that its a great option.

Why is the rebuilding with your core a bad thing? I'm trying to learn about all this as I too am about to buy one... Anyone have a powermax vs mtw dyno page or anything.?
