Can you explain EGT's?

Sorry, but I have been reading alot about the need for EGT gauges on many posts and I am not familiar with it. Can yall enlighten me on the egt gauges and what other gauges do you use? Thanks!

EGT= Exhaust Gas Temp. The temp of the air going to the turbo. To hot is bad. The othe common two gauges are tranny temp, because the one on the dash is nothing more than an idiot light, and boost.
