Question ? for Six Gun & PDA guys!

Have the six gun and PDA on my 06. Works well and was wondering what u guys are reading on engine oil temp on a typical 70 to 80 degree day. I recently pulled a pretty heavy load and my oil temp got too hot on me. it was hitting 227 and i had to back out of it but it still didn't drop very much lower. running empty i run from 212 to 216. tried putting the chip on level 1 and the results were the same empty and loaded. these temps seem a little high to me running without a trailer. any input is appreciated.

oil temp wasa 227....but what was coolant temp??

As long as oil and coolant temp are within 25 degrees(give or take a couple degrees...i wouldnt worry about 28 degrees of difference occasionaly) of each other, dont worry bout it. if it is more, you may have an issue with the oil cooler

I think the coolant temp was around 208-212 but cant remember that for sure. I only got worried because my six gun started the high oil temp alert. I wasn't sure what the limits were. it was definitely under 25 degrees than the coolant so it may not be too big of a problem at all. i should probably not have been pulling that heavy of a load so fast, but these powerstrokes are just so darn powerful i cant help myself.

This is mostly for Mark. I'm having the same problem. My coolant will be around 210-212 and the oil temp alarm goes off indicating 227. I immediately back off but then I loose all my speed and finish the hill at 25-35 mph. Would an auxillary oil cooler help very much? And if so any suggestion on brand and/or size?

Bob

as long as your oil is within 25 degrees, or up to 25 degrees from teh coolant, you are ok.....you may have an oil cooler problem though as the stock cooler is pretty large and should be sufficient. the numbers you give me are within spec though..

6 Gun and PDA guys

My truck is a 2006 F-350 w/Auto tranny. I have the Banks 6 pack tuner with the PDA installed. Presently it has around 8500 miles on it. I mostly pull a 20' enclosed trailer with a Jeep or Competition Rock Crawling Buggy. Either way including trailer the weight is around 8,000 to 8,500 lbs. Every time I encounter a modest grade of about 1-1/2 miles in length or more I find the oil temp creeping up to the 225+ range. Lately the temp here in AZ and Nevada has been around the 100' mark. As I stated before, I back off immediately when the alarm goes off indicating engine oil temp of 227. It is frustrating (and embarrasing) as then I wind up in the right hand lane with everything including 1957 VW Busses (with flowers in the dash panel) passing me !!

So towing the toyhauler this weekend and my oil temp hit 227, tranny got up to 180 and the coolant temp got to 220ish. Got home and it looks like the coolant res. overflowed. I had the 6gun in level 3 as to not get the EGTs too high. Any clues on what happened inside my truck? Now theres coolant residue all over that corner of the engine compartment. What gives?
Ive heard talk that the markings for the levels are wrong and that the cold low mark relly is where the hot max should be? Any clues or ideas would help.
MARC, this is my first request for hlep from the man who knows
Thanks to all.
Rob

I posted the same problem with mine about 4 months ago. Mark replied that as long as the engine oil temp did not go more than about 25 degrees over the coolant temp there should be no problem. My coolant temp would get up to around 210-215 when my engine oil was at 225 - 227. So I reset the alarm chime on the PDA to go off at 235. So far it's never gotten any higher than 227.
While we're on the subject of Banks...I am having a problem occasionally in shifting. I have the automatic and 1 or 2 times a week the 2 to 3 shift is very erratic. It's almost like it pops into neutral for just a split second before it finishes the shift. I asked the dealer but they could not duplicate it and said there were no codes so come back when it does it again. Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks
Rokrash
