03 6.0

Hey guys I have a question, I just bought an 03 6.0 and I plan on doing studs and gaskets but with 140k miles can it wait a little while? My 04 crew cab is fresh out of the shop with the full bulletproof kit, so my new dd being stock with a six gun, I'm worried it will fail.. any advice? Another kit will kill me in costs.

Without some way to monitor what's going on it's impossible to tell what shape your motor is in let alone how long you can run it as it is.

The mileage isn't what you need to worry about when considering the health of the motor. How good the previous owner maintained the truck is the big question. Get you a monitor and read the stickies at the top of the forum. Once you've concluded your motor is good and doesn't need anything then I wouldn't be scared at all to throw an SCT on it. You can leave the Six Gun if you choose but once you do step up and get custom tunes via SCT, you will truly see the potential these trucks have. It's amazing the difference. My dad has an 06 6.0 running factory head bolts with 207k miles and an SCT with a performance tune for over a year now with no issues. And he uses the truck like a truck. No grandpa driving. Don't be scared of these motors just from the bad wrap they've gotten.
