I look at the 03 as a step up from the 05+, but not as big of a step as say a Hybrid.
Wow! 4Lbs is even better! Should be doing my swap soon. Gotta find some time.

So if the 03 turbo is a better setup than the new ones, why would Ford change them?

because these rigs are meant for towing, less lag is better for the majority of Ford's customers who tow.

I asked the head Ford Mechanic about the new turbos versus the '03 turbos and he said that they changed them for 2 reasons the main reason was that the 03s didn't have as much tolerance and hung up when the vanes were moving and that the new turbos have more tolerance (room) for the vanes to move in the turbo housing. The other reason was the lag in the spool.

My 03 that I installed has much better throttle response and is a smoother and generally all around better feeling turbo.

Not to mention that I regained the boost that I lost with the IC upgrade.

I think I am going to hold on to mine. That way if I ever have the need to upgrade my turbo I can send the 03 out to get done up and slap the 05 back on. This way I minimize the down time on my truck. When she's sitting she ain't making money

[quote=DKR;543078]3 hours for someone whos never touched a turbo swap? Not bad, not bad at all!

I luckily had someone who's done a swap (Maintain, although he never did a 6.0 turbo till mine! ).[/QUO
Got my 03 turbo yesterday and picked up up the pedistal today... hopefully will get it installed early to mid next week because I'll be out of town this weekend Hopefully it all goes smooth with install since I have a buddy who builds pulling trucks on the side. I'll keep you all posted when the install gets finished. Thanks DKR for all the help.
