Finally Installed the 03 Turbo

Quick question. I have a 2003 F550 CC 6.0. I had the turbo replace under warranty last year. I take it I got robbed of the whistle. I thought at the time the thing was whistling because it was worn out. The shop said that the vanes were sticking or something. So to get the sound I will have to go back and find an '03 turbo.

It all depends F550. The only way to be sure that you have an 03 Turbo would be to count the number of blades on the exhaust side of the turbo.

I called the dealership and they said that the turbo had been upgraded in their computer system twice. So I take it I have the 15 blade turbo now and no real whistle. So guess I am odd man out.

lol that sucks man. I know of some people that have been screwed out of their whistle like that as well. So you are not alone.

Great job on the install!!! Thanks again for the 6.0 IC. I'm hoping to get it installed very soon (need to get the new boots for the install).

my turbo took a dive, we wound up making a mutt of a turbo. we used my 03 housings on a newer style turbo, i still have my whistle.

I luckily had someone who's done a swap (Maintain, although he never did a 6.0 turbo till mine! ).

I have the 2006 6.0 and recently have done a lot of thinking of the 03' turbo swap... good idea? Where did you buy your 03' turbo and about how mch did it cost you. I havea buddy who can help install at his shop. I'm glad someone has this thread going. thanks for the info.

Yes its a good idea, if you want outrageous turbo whine I got mine new for $500 from a guy off criagslist but had to get the pedestal myself from the ford dealer. Over all I think the swap was worth it, took lots of elbow grease and patience to get the job done but you will get happy results at the end. Anyone who is in the process of doing this swap I wish you luck!!!! Oh and believe me you would want to drive with the windows down all the time lol.

An 03' turbo can just switch out without needing any other modeficating then... right? Just some hours of the day and some frustration. I love the sound of the 03' and also have heard you can recieve greater boost levels than that from the 06 turbo. I started looking on the internet for one but if you happen to some across one... please let me know. Thanks.
