2wd to 4wd

I'll try to keep this short. Has anyone out there ever researched the issue of converting a 05 or later F-450/550 from 2 to 4 wd??? I am wondering if the axel swap is just a matter of pulling the straight beam and replacing it with the drive axel. The transfer case issues don't seem to be too big of a deal. Or should I just be !

I have no personal experience swapping a 450/550 to 4wd but a 250 is very simple. It literally is just a matter of swapping the I-beam out for an axle. Two things to think about on the 450 is the front axle your going to use. Them trucks use what Ford calls a "Super 60" Dana 60 which is 10 lug and has sharper turning radius and larger u-joints than the Dana 60's in the 250/350 Superduty's. It will probably be hard to find. Secondly, what transfer case to use. I'm not sure if the 450/550's use the same transfer case as the smaller trucks. They might, but that you need to research.
