SCT Tunes and white smoke
Ive got an SCT and when I run my extreme street or extreme race tune, when I start the truck after sitting overnight, it blows alot of white smoke. It usually does it for 5 minutes or so unitl it warms up. It doesnt do it while on stock or with my towing tune. Do I need new tunes? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

I run extreme street and have NO smoke on start up but maybe you have more moisture build-up overnight.

You might call Eric @ Innovative and ask him. It is odd that it won't white smoke on stock tune. I know everyone else that was seeming to have white smoke on start up has been advised/ told to go get the newest reflash from Ford, It is supposed to help out greatly with cold starts.

could be time to drain the water separator/water in the fuel

Mine does almost the same thing with almost all my tunes. After sitting all night I have to let the glow plugs cycle twice before it will even start. If I only let them cycle once and try to turn the motor over white smoke comes out of the exhaust while im cranking. It smells like fuel.
Its kinds like this video but not as bad.YouTube - cold start smoke with the stack Its also wierd because when I go to cycle my glow plugs for the second time after the first time failed there is a loud boom that comes out of the exhaust. WHAT IS THAT ALL ABOUT? If I cycle them twice and crank it, it starts right up with a little black cloud of soot. For the first few miles down the road I can notice a little bit of white smoke to. Once the motor is warmed up it will start right up. I dont get it. Im just wondering if there is to much unburnt fuel in motor for it to start cold and thats why it starts fine when I cycle the glow plugs twice. Is this what yours is doing? Anyone else? |

you are just adding alot of extra fuel and it is not warm enough to burn all of it....
mine does the same with a smaller chip on it i wouldnt worry about the other tunes just dont dump as much fuel so its warm enough to burn all of it. |

it's normal...especially when it's cold.

Mine blows alot more white smoke than the video. I think it is dumping too much fuel but it even does it when it is hot outside.

Sounds different than what ive experienced. Mine starts right up and hasn't ever blown any white smoke, stock or tuned...
