03 Turbo Swap Discussion

My truck is an Oct.2003 build date, but is a 2004 truck.

It has the 7 fins on the compressor impeller.

To be a 2003 should it have 10 fins on the exhaust side?


Also, has anyone removed the silencer ring at the front of the turbo?

I heard it will let you flow more air and has more whistle

It sounds like you have an 03 turbo. Most people just throw them on and straight pipe the truck to get a good amount of whistle. Although I have heard of some removing the SR. I hope this helps.

Dunno about the silencer ring...but all the turbos have the 7 blade on the intake side, it is the 10 on the exhaust that makes the determination. And some 04 early builds do have the 03 turbo, but I don't remember the cut off on the build dates.

I just bought an 03 f-350 with an AEM intak and a Magnaflow 4 inch exhaust from the turbo back and the whistle is awsome. never get tired of listening to it!

I am having to replace my second turbo. something ate 6 of the 7 fins and just want to make sure they put the exact same type of turbo back on my truck.

That is crazy . I would be upset if they gave me a different turbo as well.

This is the puzzler. It has had a high whine for the last 4 ro 5 months, but I just thought it was the regulated return system that I just had installed at the same time my H-11 head studs were put in. (ignorance on part I guess)

Well, Thursday I was starting to do NCHornet's CCV mod and when I took off the boot that connects to the turbo, below is what I saw.

I have had no boost loss, I can hit 32 to 34 all day long.
Just have no idea what happened.

A problem I just thought of is, I don't know if they are still producing the 03 10 vanes. To switch from late year to 03 all of takes is a pedestal swap, hope they don't do the same thing and "upgrade" you to a newer turbo/pedestal setup.
